  These papers and the conference promise to be intensely interesting. Programme of the Conference  'Through the Prism of Chopin: Women, Music, and Social Change in the Long Nineteenth Century' 3 December 2025 10.00–11.00 Keynote lecture Henrike Rost,  Writing women’s history with nineteenth-century friendship albums I will be writing brief accounts of the papers presented at this truly remarkable international conference in due course but the  writing will not happen by magic overnight !  So many new and fertile areas of thought and research concerning the social position of 19th century female composers and pianists of the day were opened up for me. An intensely current subject only now subjected to wide, close and serious academic research. 'Only connect' as E.M.Forster wrote. One example concerned how access to electricity in the modern Western world - domestic use in the 1920s - let alone during the time of Chopin when electricity simply did not exist...
